Last week Rayyann was prescribed with flucloxacillin for her infected eczema condition after we brought her to the doctor. She was also being prescribed with Oilatum Junior bath and Clobetasone cream as part of her eczema treatment. Poor girl, how could we left her untreated (well, we self-treated her with various creams though.. starting from aqueous cream, to olive oil, to calamine, to Sudocreme, to E45 Itch Relief) for weeks, let her bore the itchiness on her own. As the doctor said
“If you could have brought her here two weeks ago, it wouldn’t be this bad..”.
Given that prescription, definitely made myself & Dzul scratched our heads (HARD!!), retrieving the pharmaceutical knowledge that we have long forgotten. The funny thing was, we (ehem, Dzul) got confused, by saying that flucloxacillin is from tetracycline group (kot, yg dia cakap).
Refresher: Flucloxacillin is from penicillin group, specifically penicillinase-resistant penicillin. A narrow spectrum penicillin, targets penicillinase-producing strains of gram-positive cocci, particularly Staphylococcal species. Staph. Aureus is a bacteria commonly found in skin infection.
Rayyann has to take her antibiotic in an amount of 2.5ml every 6 hours. The pharmacokinetic (the action of the body towards the drug) of the drug shows that the concentration of the drug to be at the effective level (in fighting the bacteria) goes down after 6 hours. Which means the remaining concentration in the body will not be sufficient to fight the infection, therefore need to be top up.
Dosing for Our Soul
This reminds me of our IMAN. The need of the 5 prayers in a day, everyday throughout our life, in sick or health, comes rain or shine. Our Iman has its up and down moments. By performing solah (as one of the ways to maintain our iman), we are trying to ensure that our iman level is always at the highest point. We could also remind ourselves the responsibility as the servant of Allah.
Let’s look back at His firman in surah Al Asr (S103:1-3):
وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ (١) إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسۡرٍ (٢) إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ (٣)
By the declining day, (1) Lo! man is a state of loss, (2) Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance. (3)
May we not be part of the group who are in a total state of loss… insyaAllah
